Man! This episode is really bad - especially the camera work. The camera keeps panning and zooming randomly. For example, why the f*ck did it zoom to random characters at 10:30? And when Lexia said something about "Owen is talking with someone over there" at 14:30, it panned to some random location unrelated to what she was saying. Why? I was expecting to see Owen somewhere in the background but, nope! It's just a random scenery.

Not to mention I couldn't make out what was happening during the fight scene in the hut. It was too dark, unfocused, and full of static choreography. And where was the arrow at 21:45 shot to? What the f*ck actually happened there?

I read both manga and the LN so I already accepted the story is hopelessly mediocre but at least the fight scene was solid. And then the anime still fail at the only thing that makes this show relatively enjoyable. That's quite an achievement if you asked me.

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 10 months ago

Oh yeah, that zoom in to those characters! I was expecting them to maybe strike up a conversation, do the typical "Oh it's a newbie, let's see how we can mess with him or trick him" sort of set up and then Yuuya eventually shows how strong he is and breaks apart their plan but nothing.

Yeah the random scenery is clearly a cover up for the art that was never finished on time, it's so clear in this episode, especially during the fight there's an actual cut with animation drafts, I don't think I've come across an anime that has used it unironically.

I wouldn't mind it much, but the scene where the robot girl was destroying everything, and MC just looking at her wondering if he should intrude? Damn bro, lost me there xD.

Deus The Great • 10 months ago

Even Ex-Arm has the better camera angles than this lmao.

RareMartian • 10 months ago

now thats something unbelievable for ex arm to be better at something than other animes

Vii X • 10 months ago

God. So much UST. Wish they'd just bone already.

antonio garcia • 10 months ago

remember that one poorly made anime with characters that were randomly 3d or 2d with the main character trapped in what looks like one of those webcams from the 80s but is actually a robot brain? that was certainly better quality than this episode

Glad people saw this, was expecting some mad copium in the comments.

I started watching Anime in in the 90s, watching NGE on tv in the middle of the night, original Japanese audio only. Watched others even before that, like Heidi, but didn't realize it was Anime since they were all dubbed. I was downloading anime from IRC via XDCC Bots before most of the kids here were even born. I suffered the pain of spending two weeks downloading with your entire bandwidth only to realize it was password protected (you actually paid hard $ per byte back then). With this god given supreme authority, let me tell you:

This was some major dawgshit animation.

LesK • 10 months ago

sorry but no. i'm JUST as old in anime as you are... i started with Harmony Gold's English dub VHS tapes of ROBOTECH in the Summer of 1990 and this episode... yes it has a LOT of problems... but with MY experience of over 10,000 different titles? this episode ISN'T dogshit.

James Smith • 10 months ago

he just has really high standards like the type of "perfect" but he knows it don't exist but he don't care so he decides to hate since it isn't perfect for 'him' people like that dude that said dawgshit animation truly is the whole world revolves around me.

LesK • 10 months ago

2 thumbs up for that one. :D most definitely

Eric M • 10 months ago

Robotech was my gateway drug back in 84 and was into tape trading for a bit. This episode showed that the visuals were bad, story pacing is meh, and the director needs to go back to school. If you can't learn from the past and at least learn from it, the team should be ashamed of their work with all the benefits from modern animation. Ex-arms is still worst, but I would bet they have learned a little from their mistakes if they did another project.

LesK • 10 months ago

the visuals are not entirely terrible throughout the episode. there are SERIOUS problems with the episode... if you can find it doublecheck my solo comment about it.

the entire season's story or just this one episode? pacing. you mean adaptation? meh. i'd go 50/50 on that one, since i don't read sources like these light novels i can't say much to the change from print to anime... but i personally have liked and enjoyed this show's storytelling. yes i HAVE commented previously about the bear, the mall fire, the fight with the gang, heck his fall from the 3rd story window of his school alone made me stop and go, 'nani tha fuck!' for several seconds.

but Marvel and DC and other franchises in the US and internationally do 'stuff' like this show does all the time... and not alot of folks boo-hoo over it. heck there are a shit-ton of writing problems in 'Superman & Lois' from the Arrow-verse on CW that i'm watching right now, for the 1st time, that make THIS show look like Beowulf and Homer's Odyssey.

without actually sitting down with the episode/project director for a discussion... i'm not going to comment at ALL about his skills/schooling. his choices are over and done with, it is 'in the can'... plus, i'm no director, i have no experience to extrapolate from... i can see issues and problems and great moments within this episode. but i can't read the director's mind and say for certain it is all his fault.

omg yes 'Ex-ARM' is the WORST show i've ever watched and completed. well. no. it is the 3rd worst. 'The Sword of Truth' adaptation of Terry Goodkind's epic fantasy novels is the 2nd worst. 'The Wheel of Time' by Amazon of Robert Jordan's novels is the very VERY worst i've seen. i couldn't get through the first 15 minutes of the 1st episode. period. i'm done with that adaptation 100% totally and utterly. i can say 'Ex-ARM' interested me due to its usage of 'the brain in a box' plot idea. i really enjoy exploring that one every time i come across it. even when the execution of the idea itself needed to be executed... with a big BIG axe.

Room 34 of the Internet. • 10 months ago

Bro no offense but... Uhm CW superhero series aren't a good comparison for anything movies. Infact CW as a whole is mid.
Try Netflix Marvel shows, you'd be amazed.

LesK • 10 months ago

let's see... where's my list... aha there it is. Daredevil, done. NewMutants, done. Loki, done. Venom, done. WandaVision, done. Ms. Marvel, done. Dr. Strange, done. Morbius, done. Thor, done. Jessica Jones, done. The Punisher, done. Iron Fist, done. Luke Cage, done. The Defenders, done. She Hulk, done. if it was an MCU movie before Wakanda Forever, i've watched it, but i haven't gotten to Wakanda just yet. all the old SONY and new SONY and MCU Spiderman movies, done. all and i do mean ALL the Wolverine and Xmen movies, done. i haven't done Red Falcon and Winter Soldier yet, i'm unsure if i ever will watch that one. Guardians of the Galaxy, just the first two, i haven't gotten to the third one. Ant-Man, done. i haven't gotten to: Man-Thing, Inhumans, Eternals, Runaways, Cloak and Dagger, Hawkeye, or Season3 of Legion. there are a large number of the Marvel animated ones i haven't gotten to or the anime ones either.

it has taken me a LOT longer to catch up with the DC ones. right now, as of today i'm in: Superman & Lois S3 Ep12, Flash S3 Ep1, Supergirl S2 Ep1, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow... i'm watching S1 Ep10 in a few minutes. i'm presently skipping all of Arrow right now, except for the yearly crossover event episode. but i'll get back to Arrow eventually. i watched Arrow for many years on TV, and Flash too. but i got burned out on Arrowverse not long after Supergirl started on CBS.

so i'm just about 100% educated on both the Marvel and DC offerings out there. :)

Room 34 of the Internet. • 10 months ago

Damn.... That's some next level dedication...
But the point still stands.... DC (asides from cartoons and few honorable mentions) sucks, CW sucks, DC / CW is Cancer.

LesK • 10 months ago

mmm ehhh... i've liked their newer movies. Shazam was funny, i haven't watched the 2nd one yet. i liked Black Adam. Rock was a GOOD choice for that role. Aquaman? ughhh ahhh mmm ehhh Momoa is OK. just. OK. better than Smallville's Alan Ritchson! ugh! he sucked! but Momoa's movie was fun, but that was about it. frankly, except for C. Reeve... i put that man on a pedestal so high i doubt any actor will do Supes better... i haven't seen a better Clark in the 'modern era' than Henry. Welling is a close 2nd and Dean Cain is 3rd for me. i would have stuck with Arrowverse's Flash Grant Gustin for Justice Leage and the new Flash movie. i just like the guy, even if they haven't written him like Barry has been portrayed before, seriously a HUGE smart-ass and about as fast with the insults as Deadpool and Peter Parker. nothing against Ezra Miller, he's an ok guy in the role. Gadot? spot on. i frankly think Linda Carter was mmm ehhh for the period i liked the WonderWoman show when i was a kid, but Gadot? yep! excellent choice! :D as to Ben Afflack (every EVERY time i think of his name i hear the AFLAC duck quacking! heh!) he was a believable Bruce. not Keaton, nope, nobody's beating Keaton, ever. Clooney was close though, i thought he was great. Kilmer, nope. that was a baaaaad idea. Pattinson? ugh... i really don't know, i haven't watched that one yet. it is on my to-watch list. i haven't watched Gotham at all so i've no idea what it is like. same for Batwoman, i watched the 1st episode and went... meh... ok... and didn't watch any more of it. as for the entire Titans cast and show? excellent. i loved every episode! frankly i want to watch more of it.

i KNOW nobody remembers Rosenbaum from Smallville as Lex voiced Barry Allen/Flash in about 100% of the animated DC shows. excellent choice. weirdest thing ever, Tim Daly from Wings does Clark/Superman in the first Animated series (and alot of other appearances for Clark) and i've always enjoyed his portrayal of Clark. and of course, the penultimate Bruce Wayne, Kevin Conroy RIP sir! i've always ALWAYS loved his work as Bruce. now, i still remember the Mark Hamill Trickster from the first TV Flash and when he started doing Joker... damn... anybody i mentioned that to back in the day... they thought i was nuts! heh! till i showed them screenshots of the credits. :D

i do have to say, for animation? yeah, DC kicks ass and Marvel is left mowing grass. the old X-Men animated series is about the peak. the oldest SpiderMan animated series, NOT Amazing Friends... Peter teaming up with two mutants always made me scratch my head as a kid watching it. but the 1990's one, cool as hell. i haven't watched all the other Spider animated ones, i did enjoy Ultimate while it was broadcasting, and the one MTV did a short season's worth of eps was excellent! as to SpiderVerse? i haven't watched the 2nd one... but i've never truly accepted Miles as a character even when Marvel first stuck him in the suit in the comics. i read the first issue he appeared in-store and put the comic down... unhappy at the end. the 1st movie's good, i enjoyed it... but the character... meh... i still don't like it. now i DID love Spiderman 2099 in comics! that was awesome, and i bought MANY issues back in the day. so i AM VERY interested to see how the 2nd movie uses his character.

now, i certainly can NOT agree that the ENTIRE DC lineup 'live action' is cancer. nope. each piece has entertained me in some way. even that barf-fest She Hulk had its moments. ugh. i tried Agents of SHIELD... seriously... i tried... annnd dropped it about midway through the 1st season and i haven't tried it since. i just did not like it. it didn't suck, i just didn't like it. so for me, those two Marvel live actions were flops. Arrowverse Flash is THOUSANDS of times better than SheHulk and SHIELD put together.

Os • 10 months ago

Lmao remembering the Masters of Animation of the 90's

dakota clark (codycody69) • 10 months ago

story was good animation budget obviously ran out Idgaf if it's animated perfectly no copium about it. it's what I enjoy and spend my time watching.

Sweetbabyinc can suck it. • 10 months ago

For a moment I thought I was watching one of those H series where they just distort a picture over and over to pretend it's being animated.

Man I hate those.

Lobstronomous • 10 months ago

Or when they zoom in and out on a single frame to try and show movement?

Sweetbabyinc can suck it. • 10 months ago

Oh yeah I hate that as well. It annoys me especially when it's an adaptation of a really good H novel and then they botch it horribly.

Schwoss_Granz • 10 months ago

The whole fucking show is a joke. We just became sucker of anything Isekai.

Eric M • 10 months ago

I skipped the sister one after part of an episode, since who cares about a weak brother. Chinese ones have improved even with bad animation and "interesting" translations.

Lobstronomous • 10 months ago

Chinese cartoons are a cancer. I have personal feelings towards the sound of the chinese language, but even apart from that, the animation is crap, the translations are crap, and the plots are either too convoluted or completely childish.

スタイル. M. • 10 months ago

"I have personal feelings towards the sound of the chinese language" I think you're just racist bro.

Nah, I don't think he is. You're free to like and dislike what you want, he didn't discriminate, he just has a problem with the language, I live in China for a year and my God did I adore the culture, but I gotta admit that the language was something I found grating, I didn't like it but got used to it. So I kinda get it. The Chinese in their animation sounds different from the one in movies for some reason.

LesK • 10 months ago

the fight scene was incredibly realistic and actually utilized the lighting correctly. zero lights inside the house. no candles. no lanterns. no torches. no 'magical light devices'. ALL the light in that fight came from the magical effects, windows, and the Sun. so it is going to be dark, confusing, and chaotic. i agree with that final arrow statement... i was 'huh? who got shot?!' they could have done better, but from what i saw... it was excellent work.

Karma'sOKish • 10 months ago

Yeah, those continuous scenes of landscape we were shown when the soldiers came to notify them while they were on their adventure, were completely ridiculous.

Niko-kun • 10 months ago

Due to the nature of this anime I only use a few of my brain cells when I’m watching just so I can enjoy it more, so I thought I wasn’t focusing enough or something 😂😂😂 when I saw this comment though i understood exactly why I couldn’t understand shit at some point 😂😂 especially with the “Oh Owen is speaking with someone?” Blud where the fuck is Owen though?

Dotone • 10 months ago

Leave it to your imagination, is what they probably wanted us to do. That part was funny, I was searching where he was.

Joopa • 10 months ago

Personally I think that Isekai de Cheat Skill wo Te ni Shita Ore wa plot was needlessly too complex and they outright ended up burning through the budget.

Eric M • 10 months ago

if was lacking in planning and wasn't that great with the budget. Someone needs to go back to film school and not skip classes.

Dotone • 10 months ago

The arrow was the most confusing part, I thought there was gonna be a cliff hanger there, but the budget stop the arrow from reaching its target.

James • 10 months ago

The camera angles definitely gave me a headache. It's like they stretched out the work between a bunch of people and none of them communicated on how the scene would go.

Jullian J. Weskier • 10 months ago

Its as if… like i complained on another anime this season… that the budget was used up

Phantom • 10 months ago

lmao They most likely ran out of budget for the episode and were just showing random characters staring, or the background scenery slideshows, to cover up the lack of animation. xD

Rustin Landis • 10 months ago

You know, I now understand why recap episodes exist.

Oviej • 10 months ago

Yeah, I was confused af. I'm glad it wasn't just me ...

Ruvion • 10 months ago

I'm guessing they had fallen way behind and thought it would be a good idea to just go with a narrative and landscape...not like that fooled anyone.

Alfeana • 10 months ago

I love reading comments like these. While the episode was great and very entertaining to me, it's fun to see how others view it. To be honest I didn't notice any of the problems you mentioned till I read your comment and rewatched looking for them. Btw the arrow in question was simply levitated and fired at the Knights armor as a simple warning, you can hear the clang when it hits.

Goblin-Slayer • 10 months ago

I really don’t mean to be rude, so please forgive me in advance…but I’m convinced you’re blind asf and just listened to the episode through your AirPods. Or are you trolling? How did you not notice the random asf pans? They overused tf outta them in that forest, which was insufferable. I legit was reading subtitles over panned still-shots and environment art.

And enjoyable? This is a whole princess who was JUST almost assassinated and they not only allow her to make one of her assassins a guard, but they ALSO allow her to just roam around outside wherever she wants and do as she pleases. That whole “I’m not letting you be alone with Yuuya!” was equally both next level shallowness and annoyance. And of course there’s an Adventurer’s Guild here, because what isekai is an isekai without one of those?

The worst part of this episode has to be the prince tho. Homie set up THE stupidest assassination attempt in all of anime. Like, how in the heck do you intentionally leave proof that you hired these guys and were involved? Then they spent half the anime “searching” for him, only for him to be in the exact same house he was banished to and lives in…talk about lazy. But THEN this man proves to be no type of threat when he just frantically swings and attacks furniture talking about how he’s gonna off himself 🤣.

And don’t get me started on the kuudere loli. She wasn’t OP. Yuuya could’ve literally mopped the floor with her right then and there but just…sat there and let her throw out all those attacks, then just sat there and let her disappear. As for the arrow, you can quite plainly tell they made it seem like she stabbed Owen in the back with it, possibly killing him. But then the episode ends and that goes absolutely nowhere.

Nothing about this episode was great or enjoyable man. At all.
